Zinc Nickel, Zinc Iron, and Zinc Plating

Since 1976, Cook-Leitch Inc. has provided metal finishing solutions for our customers. Today, we specialize in Zinc Nickel, Zinc Iron and standard Zinc plating while servicing the metal stamping, machining, casting, sheet metal fabrication, tube fabrication, fastener among other industries. We offer our customers both Barrel and Rack plating services.

Zinc Nickel Plating’ Lines

Cook-Leitch Inc.’s plating partner offers a trivalent alkaline Zinc-Nickel electroplating process which contains 12-16% Nickel for increased corrosion resistance.

We provide both Barrel Zinc Nickel and Rack Zinc Nickel services.

Salt Spray Testing for Zinc Nickel:

  • White Rust Corrosion approximately 240 hours
  • Red Rust Corrosion approximately 760 to 1,000 hours

Zinc Iron Plating

Our rack Zinc Iron Clear and Zinc Iron Black plating processes offers our customers two distinct advantages:

  • Excellent corrosion resistance (Salt Spray Test results) –
    • Approximately 168 hours to white rust and 720 hours to red rust.
  • Cost-Savings – approximately 30% savings over Zinc Nickel plating process.

Standard Zinc Plating (both Barrel and Rack)

We offer both Alkaline Zinc and Acid Zinc Plating Baths –

Alkaline Zinc Plating:

  • Our alkaline plating tanks can Zinc plate parts up to 10 ft. wide and 3.5 ft. deep.
  • We recommend the alkaline zinc plate for our variety of tube weldments, tube fabrications, large stampings and sheet metal fabrications.
  • Our typical standard for our alkaline zinc plating is ASTM B633. Without a chromate or passivate topcoat, white rust will typically appear within 48-72 hours.
  • We can include colored chromates or passivates to increase the corrosion resistance (i.e. salt spray hours). This can range from 96 hours to 120 hours to white rust.

Acid Zinc Plating:

  • Our acid zinc plating process is ideal for castings (porous products).
  • The acid zinc bath will provide a brighter aesthetic finish.
  • Typically, acid zinc will perform better to the white rust salt spray test – approximately 96 hours.
  • We have an automatic acid zinc plating line which can handle medium size parts based upon our tank size of 2 ft. wide x 4 ft. deep.
  • We also have a manual acid zinc plating line which can process part sizes up to 11 ft. wide x 3.5 ft. deep.
